Speaking in an exclusive interview with broadcaster Caleb Nii Boye, Obrafour revealed that he often feels uneasy and embarrassed when Sarkodie publicly credits him for his success, insisting that all honour and glory should be given to God.

His comments come in response to a viral video currently making rounds online, which has reignited conversations about Sarkodie’s deep respect for the veteran rapper.

Reflecting on their long-standing bond, Obrafour spoke warmly about Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, noting that while the younger rapper frequently acknowledges him as a key influence during his formative years—particularly through their classic collaboration “Saa Okodie No”—he believes such praise is unnecessary.

According to Obrafour, Sarkodie has grown into a powerful and independent force within the music industry, with a global brand that far exceeds any early influence he may have offered.

“If it were entirely up to me, I would rather see that honour directed to the Creator,” Obrafour said.

He added that from their very first meeting, he recognised Sarkodie’s immense potential and felt strongly that his journey was divinely orchestrated.

The rap icon also spoke candidly about his personal faith journey, revealing that the death of his mother deeply shook his beliefs. Once a devoted Seventh-day Adventist, Obrafour said the loss caused him to question his faith, struggling to understand how someone so committed and central to the family could pass away so suddenly.

However, his outlook changed following the unexpected success of his debut album Pae Mu Ka. According to Obrafour, the rapid breakthrough forced him to reflect deeply, eventually convincing him that his rise could not have happened without divine intervention.

This belief, he explained, is why he feels uncomfortable when people elevate him solely for his musical talent rather than acknowledging a higher power.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media late Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, Kwesi Arthur said he has had no affiliation with Ground Up Chale since the release of his debut album Son of Jacob in 2022, yet the company continues to claim rights to his catalogue and likeness.

According to the multiple award-winning artist, despite years of working under the label, he received no financial returns from his music and has endured what he describes as ongoing threats, manipulation, and intimidation from Glen Boateng.

“Someone is living off my money and hard work while trying to control my life,” Kwesi Arthur stated.

The most alarming part of the statement came when the rapper issued a public warning, suggesting that the situation had escalated beyond a contractual disagreement:

“If anything happens to me, the world should know where it came from.”

Kwesi Arthur further accused Ground Up Chale of falsely claiming ownership over his image, sound recordings, branding, and intellectual property from the start of his career, despite his exit from the label years ago. He described the alleged demand for $150,000 as an attempt to financially and creatively cripple his independent comeback.

As of the time of publication, Ground Up Chale and CEO Glen Boateng have not issued an official response to the allegations.

The revelations have sparked intense debate on social media, reigniting conversations about artist exploitation, contract transparency, and power imbalance in the Ghanaian music industry, with fans and industry players calling for accountability and legal clarity. He further accused Boateng of working “around the clock” to prevent him from releasing new music independently, stating that the prolonged dispute has taken a severe toll on his mental health and overall wellbeing. Kwesi Arthur said that for the safety of himself and his family, he felt left with no option but to “publicly share the truth.”

The post quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter), triggering widespread reactions from fans, industry stakeholders, and media outlets. Within hours, hashtags such as #FreeKwesiArthur, #KwesiArthur, #GroundUpChale, and #GlenBoateng trended nationwide in Ghana, as supporters demanded transparency and accountability while calling attention to alleged exploitation and power imbalances in artist–label relationships.

Many creatives and commentators also used the moment to renew calls for stronger legal protections, clearer contracts, and mental health support for artists navigating disputes within the music industry.Ground Up Chale, which once propelled Kwesi Arthur to mainstream success through early hit releases and high-profile collaborations, has not issued any public response to the allegations as of press time. The company was founded by Glen Boateng and rose to prominence in the late 2010s as a major force in Ghana’s rapidly growing hip-hop and Afrobeats scene.

Kwesi Arthur has been operating as an independent artist since around 2022–2023, following his exit from Ground Up Chale. He subsequently launched his own imprint, Sisi Music, and released projects including This Is Not The Tape III, distributed through platforms that emphasise artist ownership and direct fan support, notably under the Proud 2 Pay model.

His fallout with Ground Up Chale had previously spilled into the public domain, with now-deleted social media posts in which the artist accused the label of unfair treatment regarding publishing and distribution arrangements—claims that resurfaced following his latest statement and have reignited wider industry debate.

The judgment, reported by GHOne News on 20 January 2026, brings to a close a legal battle that began in May 2025, when Empress Gifty filed a GH₵20 million suit against Agradaa. The lawsuit accused the evangelist of making defamatory and slanderous remarks during several live online sessions and sought a perpetual injunction to prevent further defamatory comments, as well as the removal of all offensive content from Agradaa’s social media platforms.

In December 2025, Agradaa formally withdrew her allegations, admitting through her legal representatives at Agyaa Asamani Law Consult that the statements were untrue and had been made “in the spur of the moment.” She issued an unreserved public apology to Empress Gifty, acknowledging the damage caused to her reputation, career, and personal life, and extended her apology to the musician’s family, friends, and associates.

Confirming the settlement in a press release dated 20 January 2026, Agradaa’s lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, Esq., stated that both parties reached an amicable agreement, which was subsequently adopted by the court as a Consent Judgment.

As part of the ruling, Agradaa was directed to pay GH₵100,000, covering legal fees and related costs. She was also required to publicly retract her defamatory statements and issue a formal apology. Additionally, the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) was instructed to remove all related publications by both parties from social media platforms.

Mr Baffour confirmed that Agradaa has fully complied with the court’s orders, having paid the amount in full and issued the required public apology to Empress Gifty.

Management of award-winning dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has confirmed that the musician has instructed his legal team to file a defamation lawsuit against broadcaster and musician Blakk Rasta.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, 2026, in Accra, the management said the decision follows a series of public statements allegedly made by Blakk Rasta which they describe as false and injurious to the artist’s reputation.

The statement noted that while Shatta Wale, known in private life as Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has consistently demonstrated respect for freedom of expression and the role of the media in public discourse, such freedoms must be exercised responsibly.

According to management, commentary—particularly on matters affecting an individual’s character and integrity—must meet standards of accuracy, fairness, and professionalism.

“The decision to seek legal redress was not taken lightly,” the statement said, adding that the move is aimed at protecting the artist’s personal and professional reputation while reinforcing the importance of responsible broadcasting within Ghana’s media landscape.

Management further indicated that the matter is now before the courts, and as a result, Shatta Wale and his team will refrain from discussing the issue in the media, allowing due process to take its course.

A Kumasi court has indefinitely adjourned proceedings on an application by Akosua Serwaa seeking Letters of Administration over the estate of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, following a legal objection filed by her co-wife, Odo Broni.

The matter came up after Akosua Serwaa, recently declared by a High Court as one of Daddy Lumba’s lawful wives, filed an application to be granted Letters of Administration to manage and distribute the late musician’s estate, believed to be intestate.

However, the process was abruptly stalled when lawyers for Odo Broni, also recognised by the court as a surviving spouse entered a caveat against the application. The caveat effectively prevents the court from granting any Letters of Administration without first notifying and hearing from Odo Broni.

When the case was called, counsel for Odo Broni formally drew the court’s attention to the caveat. In response, the presiding judge adjourned the matter sine die, meaning indefinitely and without a fixed date for continuation.

Under Ghanaian law, particularly Order 66 Rule 13 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2004 (C.I. 47), surviving spouses rank highest and share equal priority in applying for Letters of Administration where a person dies without a will. Legal experts note that this provision does not permit one spouse to unilaterally assume control of an estate to the exclusion of another equally recognised spouse.

The caveat filed by Odo Broni is therefore understood to challenge the propriety of Akosua Serwaa’s sole application, arguing that any administration of the estate must reflect the coequal legal status of both wives. Until the objection is resolved either through a court hearing or a joint application, the court is barred from granting the Letters of Administration.

The latest development also revives lingering questions surrounding the late musician’s estate, including whether Daddy Lumba left a valid will. If a will exists, the current application for Letters of Administration would be rendered unnecessary, as estate administration would then proceed under probate rather than intestacy.

For now, the legal process governing Daddy Lumba’s estate remains at a standstill, with the court insisting on strict adherence to due process and the statutory framework on succession.
";s:11:"category_id";s:1:"6";s:8:"image_id";s:3:"152";s:12:"optional_url";N;s:9:"pageviews";s:1:"2";s:13:"comment_count";s:1:"0";s:9:"need_auth";s:1:"0";s:12:"slider_order";s:1:"1";s:14:"featured_order";s:1:"1";s:12:"is_scheduled";s:1:"0";s:10:"visibility";s:1:"1";s:17:"show_right_column";s:1:"1";s:9:"post_type";s:7:"article";s:10:"video_path";N;s:13:"video_storage";s:5:"local";s:9:"image_url";N;s:9:"video_url";N;s:16:"video_embed_code";N;s:7:"user_id";s:1:"3";s:6:"status";s:1:"1";s:7:"feed_id";N;s:8:"post_url";N;s:13:"show_post_url";s:1:"0";s:17:"image_description";N;s:17:"show_item_numbers";s:1:"0";s:14:"is_poll_public";s:1:"1";s:15:"link_list_style";s:156:"a:3:{i:1;a:2:{s:5:"style";s:4:"none";s:6:"status";i:0;}i:2;a:2:{s:5:"style";s:4:"none";s:6:"status";i:0;}i:3;a:2:{s:5:"style";s:4:"none";s:6:"status";i:0;}}";s:11:"recipe_info";N;s:9:"post_data";N;s:10:"updated_at";s:19:"2026-01-13 16:01:32";s:10:"created_at";s:19:"2026-01-13 15:50:29";s:10:"image_data";s:337:"img_bg::uploads/images/202601/image_870x580_69666782c00c6.jpg||img_df::uploads/images/202601/image_870x_69666782e1c8a.jpg||img_sl::uploads/images/202601/image_694x532_69666782f21af.jpg||img_md::uploads/images/202601/image_430x256_6966678306fdf.jpg||img_sm::uploads/images/202601/image_140x98_696667830f1a3.jpg||img_mi::jpg||img_st::local";s:13:"category_name";s:13:"Entertainment";s:13:"category_slug";s:13:"entertainment";s:14:"category_color";s:7:"#ad1356";s:15:"author_username";s:12:"Hilda Appiah";s:11:"author_slug";s:12:"hilda-appiah";s:15:"lang_short_form";s:2:"en";}i:13;O:8:"stdClass":45:{s:2:"id";s:2:"97";s:7:"lang_id";s:1:"1";s:5:"title";s:94:"What Is Wrong If Nigerian Artists Perform in Ghana?” – Abeiku Santana Defends Foreign Acts";s:4:"slug";s:89:"what-is-wrong-if-nigerian-artists-perform-in-ghana-abeiku-santana-defends-foreign-acts-97";s:10:"title_hash";N;s:8:"keywords";N;s:7:"summary";N;s:7:"content";s:1169:"
Media personality and tourism advocate Abeiku Santana has defended the presence of Nigerian artists performing in Ghana, questioning the criticism often directed at such events.

The Foundation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP) today held a press conference to present its One-Year Scorecard evaluating the performance of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration in advancing Ghana’s creative arts and cultural economy since taking office. The event, held at 3:00 PM and streamed live on FOCAP’s social media platforms and kpdonline.net, brought together stakeholders from across the creative industries.

Addressing journalists, FOCAP leadership outlined the progress, challenges, and unmet expectations they have identified over the past year. The scorecard aimed to assess government commitments including policy execution, funding, infrastructure development, and institutional support for artists, musicians, filmmakers, and other creative professionals against real outcomes.

Representatives highlighted areas where the government has made notable strides, including greater visibility for creative arts issues in national discourse and increased stakeholder engagement. At the same time, FOCAP underscored persistent gaps, such as lagging budgetary allocations, slow implementation of promised support mechanisms, and insufficient creative economy infrastructure themes that have been echoed in earlier FOCAP statements, which have demanded stronger backing for the sector.

In its presentation, FOCAP called on the Mahama administration to translate its creative economy commitments into tangible policy actions and funding decisions, particularly as the country navigates broader economic priorities after it transitions into a new government year. The organisation also urged enhanced intellectual property protections and public-private partnerships to foster sustainable growth in Ghana’s creative industries.

Stakeholders from music, film, fashion, and performing arts sectors were in attendance, expressing support for FOCAP’s assessment and encouragement for a more inclusive and structured government approach to creative sector development.

Her comment, which included the phrase “What’s all this?”, sparked conversations online about boundaries in celebrity mentorship.

Wendy Shay has been publicly associated with young talents Tracy Shay and Korkor Shay, both of whom have appeared with her at events and performances. Her relationship with Tracy Shay, in particular, gained public attention after a video of the young girl dancing to one of Wendy Shay’s songs went viral at a school programme.

While many artistes spend their careers trying to fit into the system, Shatta Wale has built his by challenging it. In 2025, the dancehall heavyweight didn’t simply release music — he asserted control, expanded influence and reshaped the conversation around power in the Ghanaian music industry.

From global recognition to homegrown dominance, Shatta Wale’s year was defined by bold moves, calculated risks and unapologetic self-belief. Disruption was not a side effect of his career — it was the strategy.

A Global Signal from Day One

The year opened with a historic moment on January 1, 2025, when Shatta Wale became the only African artist invited to perform at Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street comeback concert in Kingston, Jamaica. Performing before tens of thousands, he delivered crowd-moving performances that earned him a public co-sign from Kartel himself, who hailed him as the King of African Dancehall.

It was more than symbolism. It marked Shatta Wale’s firm positioning as a global dancehall authority, not just a regional star.

Unmatched Presence at Home

Back in Ghana, Shatta Wale’s influence translated into scale. ShattaFest 2025, held at Independence Square, drew an overwhelming crowd, reinforcing his reputation as the country’s most bankable live performer. His appearance at national events, including the President’s Cup, further reflected his cultural relevance beyond entertainment.

A rare moment of unity, sharing a stage with Sarkodie and Samini, underscored not rivalry, but dominance. Shatta Wale controlled the narrative, even in moments of collaboration.

Controversy, Control and Influence

As expected, disruption came with controversy. The temporary seizure of his Lamborghini Urus by EOCO sparked nationwide debate around celebrity, power and public accountability. Yet, as has often been the case, the moment only amplified his visibility.

Online, his influence proved just as formidable. A coordinated fan-driven digital push he initiated led to the resignation of a social media figure within days — a clear demonstration of the loyalty and reach of the Shatta Movement.

Music with Intent

In August, Shatta Wale released the Voice of the Crown EP, a self-produced project that leaned heavily into themes of faith, resilience and authority. Rather than chasing trends, the project reinforced identity.

The standout track, “Street Crown,” later remixed with Vybz Kartel, became one of the year’s most impactful records. It charted internationally, topped Afrobeats rankings in the UK, and gained heavy traction across key global cities.

By year’s end, streaming data told its own story. Shatta Wale emerged as Ghana’s most-streamed artist of 2025, with hundreds of millions of streams recorded within the year alone.

Why 2025 Belongs to Shatta Wale

Within the Creative Canvas lens, Shatta Wale represents the disruptor archetype, an artist who rejects traditional validation, builds his own systems, and still achieves dominance.

That legacy was once again on display at Rapperholic 2025, held on Christmas Day at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), where thousands of fans gathered for what has become an annual tradition.

Since its inception in 2012, Rapperholic has grown into more than just a concert. It has evolved into the official end-of-year gathering for SarkNatives, bringing together music lovers from across the country and beyond to celebrate Sarkodie’s journey and the culture he represents.

This year’s edition delivered both memorable moments and noticeable challenges. While anticipation for Sarkodie’s appearance remained high, the headline act was yet to take the stage even after midnight. However, the delay did little to dampen the energy at the venue.
